This extends the Guarantee scheme by another 6 months, to the 30th June 2012 (and subject to review thereafter).

The ELG scheme covers deposits of over €100,000 across selected Irish institutions. Under the scheme deposits issued, or rolled with these institutions before the 30th June 2012 will be guaranteed to an unlimited amount for five years. The Deposit Guarantee Scheme (DGS) continues to protect deposits of up to €100,000 across certain institutions authorised in Ireland.

The ELG scheme applies to the following Banks:
• Bank of Ireland
• Irish Life & Permanent
• AIB –  Including: EBS Limited
• IBRC (formerly Anglo Irish Bank and Irish Nationwide Building Society)

This Irish Government approval also requires official sanction by the EU Commission, which is expected imminently.
